Hey guys,
A girl/lady that I've known since school has recently come back into my life and feel compelled to try and help her… so, she has 2x young children (both under 10 iirc) with her former partner but he isn't really interested, just keeps dipping in and out of hers and their kids' lives by phone - I'm talking 9 months plus at a time. He doesn't voluntarily give her any financial support – he's said he would over the phone, makes an effort for a couple of weeks/months and then it all goes quiet. It’s not consistent.
She's a full-time government employee, but works really hard
She hasn't done anything but fill out some kind of web-form, I think she's too proud to really get serious about it. I'm sure she must be entitled to some sort of state support if her ex isn’t going to help her?
I'm completely green with all of this and I know she would never come on here and ask. Is there any sort of natural starting point – does she have a case even?
Thanks.

With no information about what exactly is being claimed regarding tax credits and what her earnings are then it's impossible to help.0

Thanks people! She's earning around 26k if I was to hazard a guess? I'd need to ask her about specific tax credits.
@Alice Holt, is there not a checker on the .Gov website? I think that was a workplace colleague advising her...0 -
Guessing and thinking doesn't help anyone give any advice. Please either ask your friend what she earns and claims and come back with all the correct details or ask her to post the question herself, if she wants advice. Third party information is always the worst. Thanks people! She's earning around 26k if I was to hazard a guess? I'd need to ask her about specific tax credits.
