About-to-expire love2shop gift cards

Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong place - but I'm aware that Love2shop gift cards have a fixed unextendable expiry date, so I want to figure out what the best way to make unused credit last longer for food shopping is.
Love2shop cards can be used in lots of shops but unless I'm much mistaken, only two of those shops are really any good for essential groceries - M&S, and Iceland. Therefore, I figure that if I can turn an about-to-expire Love2shop gift card balance into a credit to be used in one of those two stores, then I *will* eventually find a use for it.
I guess one way of doing it is to use a Love2shop balance to buy absolutely *anything* from M&S that's covered by their goodwill return policy - and then immediately returning it, so that you get a credit receipt for it, which itself lasts 12 months. If the credit receipt itself gets left unused and is imminently about to expire, then just use it to buy and return something else, and get a fresh credit receipt.
Am I right in thinking this will work? If so, will M&S customer services allow you to convert a Love2shop balance into a credit receipt directly, without going through the charade of buying and returning something? Also, can credit receipts be used to buy food? What happens if you only want to use part of your receipt in a transaction?
But if you *do* buy with a Love2shop card and return for a credit receipt, presumably you can earn Sparks points on the purchase without losing them on the return, yes? What about buying with an old credit receipt and returning for a new one?
Alternatively, are there better ways of getting M&S store credit - for example, buying gift cards?
The only way I can see of getting an Iceland store credit is to top up a Bonus Card - but at least when I tried to do this online, it didn't give me the option of paying using a gift card. Does anyone know if it's different in store? Thanks.

It is a great idea, but are you sure Marks and Spencer's take the vouchers?
i cant find it on the list. https://www.highstreetvouchers.com/gift/where-to-spend-love2shop-vouchers
i have got about four hundred pounds worth shoved at the back of a draw somewhere because i dont want anything from the shops on the list so i was waiting for the fridge or something to conk out then use the voucher to get a new one.
Now i am horrified to think they might have expired. How long have you had yours?0 -

Just checked with my wife who still works for M&S
Love 2 Shop vouchers not accepted in M&S but Love 2 Shop Gift Cards are accepted in M&S.
She thinks that if you purchased something using a Love to Shop Gift Card and you returned the item you would get your refund on an M&S Gift Card. She works on the food side so this is not something she normally comes across.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -

Did this only yesterday.....
.... and took advantage of the EXTRA 5% bonus that was on offer until 18th Nov
So for each £20 worth of L2S vouchers handed over they put £22 on the Bonus card
£1 standard/normal Bonus added "immediately" and the other extra £1 will appear on Wednesday (22nd Nov)
Just need to spend the "extra" £1s by 29th Jan 2019
Savings on the Bonus card will "never" expire providing you use it at least once every 2 years
So not only extend "their life" but increase their value as well :j :T
