Hubby cred card debt statements

My husband built up a large credit card debt and took out a loan without me knowing...his debt is now being handled by Pay Plan and his accounts have been frozen. I have asked him repeatedly for the credit card and loan statements but he says he cannot get them as the accounts are in default/frozen and he can only get balances. I thought that the statements would have been possible to get hold of...even if through freedom of information act??? (I fear he is just hiding the details of his spending)
Does anyone have experience of this?

  • are these joint debts, or solely in his name?

if you feel he is hiding spending, you need to talk to him. if it is affecting your financial situation - arrears on rent/mortgage etc, then this does need to be addressed as soon as possible.

i dont want to be the one to assume this or that, post link to various self helps etc, so without more information on balances, type of transactions etc, its difficult to do so

I think you mean a Subject Access Request, a Freedom of Information request is to obtain information from public authorities.

A Subject Access Request would get him all the information the financial institutions hold about him although it's worth noting that this doesn't have to be in a "user friendly format". A raw data dump would satisfy the request although might be a little difficult for a lay person to read.

I'd be surprised if they wouldn't send him copy statements (for a fee) though.
  • He can still access his statements. He will still get statements as normal throughout his IVA or DMP however now they should show no spending so will just show the current balance, which is probably what he means. He can of course still contact them for previous statements.
  • Thankyou everyone, we have actually separated due to this but after 15 years together (and his repeat gambling addiction) I just need to know whats been going on! He told me the 80,000 (sole) debt had built up over around 4 months but I suspect its longer and I think hes just fobbing me off with regards to the statements!!
    Thankyou for your advice x
