I'm looking for a PVR for my 80 year old mother.
She's reasonably tech savvy but I'm getting bogged down with features she doesn't want/need which keep pointing me to the more expensive end of the market.
All she wants is a simple recorder with an easy to use EPG for a freeview TV. Watch one programme and record another. Not bothered about HD or streaming anything. Budget around £100 but could go for a refurb if it's known to be reliable.
Any thoughts?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yeh i think youd struggle to get a new humax pvr at £100, their non-recording set-top box is around that price point when i last got one0

If she has broadband, how about a BT YouView box? I got an unused one for around £60 off eBay.0

She's not keen on using the broadband - it's not the most reliable. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

BT Youview box which is basically a rebadged Humax with a different user interface. You can buy them online and they don't need to be connected to BT or the internet and will function just like a normal twin tuner Freeview box complete with EPG.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. We have a HD Humax dual tuner Freeview PVR, it’s now over 5 years old and still going strong. The remote controls suffer from worn button contacts, Richer Sounds used to include remotes in their extended warranty, we’ve had 2 replacements. Check the T&Cs...
The Humax PVRs consistently come top in “Which?” reviews and ours has been excellent (other than worn out remotes). I personally wouldn’t consider any other brand and Richer Sounds are very good to deal with too.0 -

£79 refurbished BT Youview box or £120 brand new from Amazon.

You do need to connect it (wired only) to the router for initial setup at least but I doubt she'd be aware of the connection beyond that. Very, very easy to use by all accounts.0 -
