speeding ticket NIP
Hi Guys
I was recently caught speeding in my wife car and see got a the NIP sent to her as it was her car. I told her to tell them that it was me driving. Today they sent me a NIP but the letter is missing the speed limit.
It says: "The speed of this vehicle on this occasion was recorded at 38mph (not recorded for red light offences) For variable speed limit offences only, the speed limit at the time was mph."
I have investigated the road and the speed limit is 30mph.
Do i have a case to contest this due to the letter not stating the speed limit.

No, it can easily be amended if you opt to go to court.0 -
Were you in fact speeding? If so, take your medicine like a good chap.
If not, you will have to find a technical reason why the case against you is flawed, and, pro tip, it won't be a typo in the letter. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
The offence is exceeding the speed limit. That is all they have to say on a NIP. There was no need to tell you the recorded speed.0

There is no requirement in law to say the speed you were caught at. As such that means ommiting it does not constitute a defence.
Are you able to do a speed awareness course? That would mean no points if you can.0 -
It not not speed I was caught at that I'm questioning as they told me that. The question is they haven't informed me of the speed limit of the road in the letter.
I will most likely take the 3 points. Just a bit miffed that the road is a complete speed trap. 60mph before the camera and then 60mph after the camera. Doing 38mph and driving safe mean nothing when if this was an actual policeman they probably just warned me or not even bothered.0 -

1. You’ve been told the answer to the question.
2. What alternative do you have to ‘taking’ the points? Nothing you have said suggests a defence.0 -
They don't have to tell you the limit on the road either. Why not do a course?0
