Is it a good idea to get Sky cover?

My sky+ box is approaching the end of its 12 month warrenty. I've been recieving a host of information about sky and satellite cover plans.

I'm wondering if I should invest in such a service? If so what one?

Ummm, no. A few reasons. If your box goes wrong, phone Sky and tell them you want to cancel, when they ask why, say that your box is broken and you cant afford to replace it, and they will probably send you a new one F.O.C. Another reason is that it will probably be the hard drive, which is a wonderful opportunity to upgrade it to a bigger hard drive. And finally, I think that extended cover is usually a complete rip off.

Just to add, if it does go wrong and you phone Sky to come out, it's a flat £60 charge even if they end up replacing the lot.

I've had to call them out the sum total of ZERO times in the last 6 years.

Even if your dish is on a chimney and the LNB develops a fault, you'll probably get a local installer to replace it for less than the insurance cost - and you won't have to wait several days to get it done.
