Can anyone please advise me if the Winter Fuel Allowance has been reduced this year.

I have just received a letter stating I will be getting £100.

I got £200 last year.

  • Depends on, tax-free :

Born between 24 September 1938 and 5 November 1953 you qualify and live with someone 80 or over who also qualifies. You get extra if born on or before 23 September 1938.

    Hope this helps.

The rules are here - are you now living with someone also eligible? I cannot see how you would get less money unless your circumstances/living arrangements had changed?

Couples under 80 each get 50% of the sum single pensioners receive.

    There is obviously a mistake,
Ring them on Monday and ask.

It has not been reduced or changed in anyway.
if your circumstances are the same, you should have got a letter saying £200/

    Does it say anything like
There is someone else in the same house who is entitled to the same amouint.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I will phone them up on Monday to query this.

thanks again for your help everyone.

If you have started to use a POA for someone & had the address changed they may have assumed they are living with you & not where you told them they were living. My mother was only entitled to £150 as she was in a care home & mine should have been £200. The first year I got £100 & she got £200. I just rang them & they could see straight away what had gone wrong. They very quickly sent me the other £100 & because it was their mistake didn't want my mother's £50 back.

Like last year I l be trotting down to Sainsburys and stocking up on their best Scotch Whisky discounts..Today its Bells at only £15 a litre..Not bad for the best blended Scotch in the UK..Waste your money on over expensive posey single malt overpriced stuff if you want but Bells take some beating..
Sainsburys have taken over as the cheapest source of discounted Whisky in the UK
