Council tax reduction

Hi,
I recently applied for UC and CTR due to change of circumstances. I've received a letter from my council to show I'll be credited x amount but it doesn't really say how much is the reduction? I assumed they just credit me the outstanding amount after they've paid my council tax.
I know I should ask the council directly but I have to wait until Monday for that. Will I get another letter to confirm how much is the reduction per week/month? I don't even know how much is my council tax after reduction.
Please advise.
Many thanks.

How do you pay you CT - monthly?
You will need to pay on an ongoing basis:
Your remaining 2018/9 CT liability;
Less the amount credited because of your CT reduction.
Your council should tell you this amount.
Can you rephrase your Q so it is clearer. I would assume the amount credited to your CT account is the reduction.
" they've paid my council tax." ??
The Council don't pay your council tax bill - you do.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
Hi Alice,
Yes, I paid my council tax by monthly DD.
Looking at the letters I've received, my outstanding council tax for the year is about £506 (bill came before rebate confirmation) and the rebate I've received is about £231.
I was told my council tax should be adjusted after reduction applied. For example if my council tax is about £110/mo and the reduction is £100/mo I only need to pay £10/mo? So I'm not sure why I get a rebate? Does this mean I only have £275 left to pay for the year?
The letter doesn't really explain/contain anything apart from the rebate amount.0 -

Yes, that would be my understanding.
I would think you will get a further letter giving you the monthly amount due to be paid, after application of the reduction.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
the rebate will be for the financial year - once the changes have been applied, you should receive a new Notice showing what is needed to pay and how much.
note though that if your circumstances change again in January, for example, you may see you bill go up again for remainder of the financial year0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I just wish they tell me the breakdown first (how much is the reduction) before sending any payment to my acc.0 -
The actual council tax demand notice will tell you how much council tax is due and when - this, unless there's been a mistake somewhere, will have been sent only after the council tax reduction adjusted was applied.
You would be due a refund of council tax only if the total of the discounts, council tax reduction and payments already made is more than the total council tax charge for the year. If there is a credit for refund then the demand notice will clearly show that.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Why not put your figures through one of the benefits calculators to get an idea of your likely CTR and your contribution to CT?0

The first letter saying the Council will credit a certain amount to your account for 2018-2019 to reduce the amount you have to pay, will be followed shortly by a new bill for the year detailing the amount you have actually paid so far, the amount they are crediting, and the balance you still have to pay, broken down into instalments if that's how you normally pay it.0

on the same theme my council asked me for bank statements that went back to 1st May 2018! before I could even sort that out and post it I got another letter - a decision letter saying that because my total assessed capital exceeded £6000 I would get zilch reduction.
the idiots had looked at my original 2 months statements and took the opening balance 2 months ago as my current balance when the statement also clearly stated what the closing balance was (and it was by that later date below the £6 threshold)..........
Ive asked for a reconsideration and will be damned if they are getting off the hook that easy. So beware if your council fails to check your bank details correctly as it could cost you hundreds of pounds if you just accept their first decision.0 -
Called the council and was told I should receive another letter. My council threshold for savings/capital is £16K (which I don't have!). I'm also waiting for my UC confirmation. I think when I have all the documents I'll go to my local council service point and confirm everything.0
