Jury duty loss of earnings

HI all, not sure this is in the correct area please move if it is not.

I've been summoned for jury duty and was not able to get out of doing it. (deferring it would no doubt mean i get called up again at my companies busiest time)

My employer won't pay me for jury duty and have put things in place to cover whilst i'm on jury duty therefore I cannot come into work either.

I was hoping for the loss of earnings payment to cover some part of my wages

I've been notified I do not need to attend court (so far only for the first day of my service) can I still claim for loss of earnings bearing in mind I cannot go to work?

Thanks

From : Jury Service What you can claim - gov.uk

    "You can usually claim for:

    travel and parking costs
    food and drink
a contribution towards your loss of earnings and other expenses"

Have you asked HMCTS for further clarification about earnings loss?

  • Thanks I already know all the “normal” information. My query is about loss of earnings as unable to go to work but not required to attend court therefore not getting my wages or compensation.

Why do you think posting in a Benefits forum will get you an answer/
    Employment forum might be better.

  • On the form for loss of earnings that your employer completes they have to indicate if you are able to return to work for periods you're not required at jury service. Your claim for loss of earnings is based on this.
  • just in case anyone comes across this thread in the future. My employer filled out the form to state i was unable to come back to work for the two week period. I was paid out in full for the full 2 weeks loss of earnings even though i was only in court for 3 half days and didn't get put on a case.
