Gas safety certificate: "flexible hose to hob" - problem?

I've just had gas and electricity safety certs carried out on the equipment in a house to be rented out, and on the gas one the engineer has attached an extra sheet with a warning about "Flexible hose to the hob".

Should I be worried about this?

It's a new-ish kitchen, only been installed for a couple of years.

Any advice gratefull accepted !!

  • The new regs state that gas hobs need to be fixed pipe installation. Hoses are ok for cookers though. I would go back to the people you bought the kitchen off and ask them if the installer was corgi registered if so get him back to change if he wasnt then they are breaking the law. Next step corgi and trading standards.

Ah. Bu@@er! I suspect it wasn't installed by a proper kitchen fitter, as my brother always got some cut-price way of doing a job which meant that the 'tradesman' wasn't anything of the sort.

Will this cause a problem in a BTL house, or does it need changing before the tenant can move in?

  • I think it will need changing, better safe than sorry. should cost approx £80 inc certificate. depending on where you live. If you live in the northwest I know a very good corgi fitter simon 07968 485 856 he is busy though

Personally I don't think you need to worry too much. I expect when the hob was installed it did meet the regs. Gas regs change from one year to the next. See the thread i started here after we received a warning notice and you'll see warning notices are pretty common:

  • Good evening: Gas hobs must be installed with rigid pipework, unless the manufacturer's instructions say otherwise. The appliance connection must incorporate an isolation device and a means of disconnection.
