Free music editing software?

I'm currently using audacity and having my bass guitar input straight into the mic port via a bass pedal... wondering if there's any better way of doing it or any better programs to use?
Thanks

  • I've tried guitar pro after borrowing it from a friend but couldn't find anyway of recording my bass into the actual program to edit it..

  • I can't quite stretch that far as it's only for home recording/editing when I'm not at practice. The studio we practice at has recording facilities anyway but I just need something for putting ideas together at home!
