Xbox 360 arcade? Please explain the difference.

Hi,

I am able to get an xbox 360 arcade real cheap (legal of course, from a friend) and I want to give to my husband for christmas but I need to know what the difference is between the Xbox 360 arcade and the Core? The main console is £100 more expensive, but I can understand why. I see there are extra accessories but is there actually a difference in the console? I want my husband to be able to buy a 360 game on christmas day and play online 'live' with others around the world etc like it advertises, do I need to buy anything extra for the arcade version to make sure he is able to do that?

Thanks for your help,

Katrina

  • the core console is simply the console without a hard drive. The xbox 360 arcade is the collection of arcade games that you will find on the dashboard. Some come preloaded on the hard drive of the premium and the others are downloadable content. You can buy the arcade games seperately from stores as you would any other game.
The core pack just gives you the console and you need a seperate memory card at your own cost to be able to download content and save games.
The premium pack gives you the xbox arcade games that are preloaded such as hexic hd, and a 80gb hard drive. Definately worth the extra money.

  • Xbox 360 Arcade and the Core are exactly the same machine - the Core has been replaced by the Arcade model.

The Arcade comes with everything your husband will need to play all games and play online. All you need for live is any 360 and broadband internet access (and to pay the LIVE fee as well!) Unlike the Core it also comes with a memory unit so we will be able to save his games (which is vital).

The other two models (which are more expensive) are the Premium and the Elite which come hard drives and wireless pads (and in the Elite's case a fetching shade of black). A hard drive is preferable as you can download demos and games from Xbox Live - but isn;t neccesary to play any 360 games or play online.

You can buy a hard drive seperatley at a later date anyway...

    Hope this helps

I think the OP is referring to the new 360 'arcade' pack (which is the new name for the Core).

It has the 2 different consoles on amazon (and the elite but I don't care about that).

    Here is the arcade:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arcade-Console-Wireless-Controller-Standard/dp/B000XPED00/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/203-4557895-6572765?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1194453485&sr=8-1

    Here is the core console:

The core is more expensive but it looks like the only difference is it includes a 20gb HD and an ethernet cable, I don't know if that is standard or if it's an amazon bundle.

    Thanks for your help.

  • There is absolutely no point in getting the 360 without the hard drive. That's were saved game positions will be saved and it'd be annoying as hell playing games without being able to save your progress. Considering some games require 40+ hours of play to complete.
