best pay-per-track mp3 download site

Hi, I'm looking for a legal site to download the odd music track - I don't want one that needs a monthly subscription or a 'tied to the machine' one like Napster. There seem to be a lot of download sites offering individual tracks for under $1 but (1) I'm looking for the largest catalogue & (2) which are reliable. Anyone with any positive experience of a site they can recommend?

iTunes has a pretty large catalogue..i presume you have already discarded it...but thought i would mention it just in case

Sorry, don't have an iPod (on principle), it's mp3 tracks I'm interested in - just want a site that when I get that 'haven't heard that track in years!' moment, I can find/obtain it.0
-
Thanks for that - unfortunately it's another subscription one (£8.99/month after the free trial) plus I wasn't too happy that their system for supplying card details didn't flag up the usual padlock logo. I just want a site that I can use as a 'pay as you go' - using PayPal or whatever - surely there must be something like that?0
-
Unfortunately using IE & FF it doesn't appear encrypted - their loss, though still don't want a subscription site.0

I've been using Itunes and I find it great.
They now have a new service called Itunes Plus, Which is unprotected music to use on whatever you like and as far as I know it costs the same as the DRM music.
So its no longer restricted to the Ipod or Apple products.0 -
Sorry, I don't mess with any security settings - if they're system isn't up to appearing secure then I don't want to deal with them - again, it's their loss.0

Fine, if it's my browser, which is still set at default settings, then it's their loss - I got bitten once by a supposedly secure site & I don't intend to get caught again. If their security doesn't meet the level that my browser (& I) demand, then I don't deal with them - there are plenty more out there.
Anyway, back to the original subject, any non-subscription sites??0 -
I have heard that buy.com is ok for downloads and charges per song rather than subscription.
I have no first hand knowledge but my source says thay have a huge catalogue of all genre's.0 -
Sorry, shouldn't even bother responding to 'browser broke' responses but.....- this particular system is just over 2 weeks old, running Vista, but I've also tried the site on my older XP machine, both of which said that I shouldn't trust the site...
Anyone supply me with the info I want??
Thank you torbrex, I shall have a wade through buy.com & see if it's for me.0 -
Woolworths isn't subscription as far as I know.
Neither is MSN music, though they want you to install their download tool.
Whether they have the back catalogue of songs you're after is another question though.Dave. :wave:0
