LED Bulbs?

Can anyone tell me if LED Headlamp Bulbs are street legal?
If they are, and you have used them, could you give me your opinion on them, and a recommendation for some H7s.

They are ridiculously expensive, over bright (which blinds other road users), and have quite a short lifespan.
They will not be road legal on a post 1986 (I think) vehicle, as they will not be e-marked, and will not have been tested in the light units.
Best bet is to fit the complete e-marked LED lamp unit from a posher/later version of your carI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yes they are ill advised in reflector housings, but if they are good bulbs they should last a long time.0
