MSE has an article covering this which you may want to read

Good to see they can react when they want to. At least they haven't tried claiming credit for Outfox's possible climbdown. (yet)

    They will in time.
    Martins Mantra SWITCH.
Too busy pushing the Big switch 12, which I admit to looking at to do.:o
Oftm,(out for the money) is just the start of what will be the norm.
Scottish Power have just wrapped mine from £83 to £131, and I have only 6 weeks left on my fix and in credit.
    No warning!
The little boys become big boys in time, and do what the big boys do.
Money upfront, large payments for winter, over and above usage.
They are doing what the big 6 did for years, sit on a large balance, or they will possibly go under, through lack of cash flow,
They may be cheap (er) ,but at what price.
Good CS goes out the window when it hits the fan, as now.
  • I emailed them to ask if there would be penalty for leaving. I received a reply very quickly saying they were sorry I felt the way I did (about their new direct debit policy) and confirmed there would not be a penalty to pay.
I thanked them for their response and told them I was leaving.
I have already put an application in to switch.

Their T&Cs mention that if switching away, you still have to pay the membership fee for the whole monthly billing period and it won't be pro-rated even if you leave mid-way. So, tailor your switch date accordingly.
  • My figures are very similar to those of RS2000: From £82.55 to £144 and £62.
  • My figures are exactly the same as RS2000, but I am over £200 in credit!

Called them but got nowhere. Not taking this c..p. I’ll move but check 1st of all the new supplier doesn’t have or plan the same scam.

The figures quoted in that article do not match the calculation for the change they are enforcing upon me, despite my account being in credit (up to £100 during the summer Months).

    Current Direct Debit:__£82.03
    New Direct Debit:
    October to March:____£143.55
    April to September:___£61.52

The example calculation in the article comes up with these figures:

"Current monthly payment. £82.25 per month. This is calculated by dividing £987 by 12.

New winter payment. £115.15 per month from October to March.

New summer payment. £49.35 per month from April to September."

I was a bit slow to pick this up, but just realised the extent of the new Direct Debit figures which total almost £300 more than my current annual bill....

    Current annual DD: £987
    New annual DD: £1230.42

How the hell does that figure when my existing direct debits are already more than my usage leaving my account constantly in credit as it is?
