Eon harrassment re smart meters

Options
Since taking on a 1 year deal with with Eon in August 2017 they and their associates constantly bombarded me with literature emails & telephone calls urging me to have a Smart meter installed.
I threatened to report them for harrassment and it went quiet for a couple of months, until today, when I received another text message.
As other members have also said it is not compulsory to have a smart meter and they are not FREE, but how to stop this? I suppose that even if I changed to another provider I would get the same treatment.
Think I'll pull up the drawbridge and change back to candle power and/or a 'Tilly' Lamp.

    Careful what you wish for.
After listening to parliament today, we might go back to nationalisation again.
    No switching then:rotfl:

Hello starsign47 and I'm sorry you're unhappy with the contact you've had from us.

As you say, smart meters are optional and you can reject each offer we make to fit them. We still need to let you know what's happening though. This project is advancing and changing all the time and we've an obligation to continue to let our customers know about these developments in case they want to change their mind. This is particularly the case now as we're rolling out SMETS2 meters and, next year, begin remote updates to many of the SMETS1 meters we've previously installed.

Hope this explains why we're continuing to contact you about smart meters even though you've said you don't want them.

At the moment the DCC/Ofgem only has the power to fine the larger suppliers for not installing meters. They have stated previously that if these suppliers don't switch enough customers they will bankrupt the suppliers. Npower paid a £2.4 million fine for not installing 4,000 business smart meters (£600 per property). EDF paid £350,000 for not installing enough residential smart meters (Numbers were withheld as commercially sensitive).

Many of the smaller providers cant get penalized in the same way for not installing smart meters (at the moment). I cant find the list of the ones that MUST be doing it, but there was one out there. So if you really want to avoid it, use a small supplier.
