Cashing cheque in other name (parent)

My father living in Ireland received a small inheritance from the UK, which the bank (Santander) sent him in the form of a cheque.
His bank at home will charge him a substantial cheque cashing charge along with a ridiculously high % based currency conversion charge to convert it to Euro.
I understand that I cannot just lodge the cheque into my Natwest account since the cheques as crossed with “must be paid into named account” marking, but would a Natwest branch accept to lodge them into my account if they were brought by him in person to a Natwest branch (knowing he has no account there or any UK bank)?
Thanks for any advice.

Can he open a GBP account with Ulster Bank? (e.g. one of these)
Then you should be able to pay it in for him at any UK Post Office.
He might also be able to do useful things at an Ulster Bank branch if he has one nearby him, but it's not that clear from the website how much you can operate the GBP account from a branch in the Republic of Ireland.0 -

The key wording here is "must be paid into named account". Even if brought into a branch by him in person, he would still need to pay it into an account in HIS name.
The options forward in my mind are either a) he deposit into his ROI account with all the fees and poor rates that will entail or b) open a GBP account elsewhere (as has been suggested)0 -
Would it be possible to go back to Santander and explain the problem (they wouldn't know that he didn't have a UK bank account when they sent him the cheque) and ask for the money to be transferred by another method?
There will be charges whatever way you do it, but an electronic transfer will be cheaper than cashing a cheque. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

The OP said the cheque had come from Santander - and sometimes banks act as executors.
But to clarify - could your father contact whoever sent the cheque and ask them to pay the money by a different method? No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
