Children's accounts at Post office

Hi,
I am looking for an account with any provider that will allow my children to deposit cash at the local post office.
I did open a Halifax kids' saver for them, only to find out after all the rigmarole that they don't get issued with a book or card to deposit cash.
Does anyone have a good account that the kids' can deposit cash into at the post office?
We live in a rural village in Devon so please don't tell me to go "in branch" like Halifax did! There aren't any!

Much harder to do this than I thought it would be.
Children are aged 9 and 11.
Thanks

There is a MSE guide to kids' bank accounts, but you would probably need to check each one of them to see if they allow access via the Post Office.

  • I have seen that, but it doesn't give details. I wanted someone to tell me if they have actually got one for their children.

You can check which banks allow you to pay in at post offices on the Post Office website:

As far as I can see, only current accounts are mentioned, so it's unlikely that you will find a children's account that lets you pay in at the post office.
  • That is what I am thinking, HSBC can from 11.

I know my suggestion probably goes against the concept you are asking for but... Have you considered the option for them to deposit the money in to a 'bank jar' (piggy bank) at home, you take the cash and simply transfer it in to their accounts? They can log in to their accounts and see the deposit being made. My child is a few years older than yours but that is often what we do in this situation (she gives me the cash and I transfer the same amount from my account to hers).

  • Thanks, HSBC do one that is in branch, 3%. At 11 they get a card which will be able to use at p.o.
Money at home burns holes, money in the bank allows more considered decisions.
    Might do partial idea though.

I think the idea would be that you deposit into your own account (over the counter at the post office) and then transfer the money directly to your child - its the same basic end-game as what you are looking for, just with an extra added step in the middle
