Hello,
So the question is: how can people claim they are unable to follow an unfamiliar route, yet they can drive to an unfamiliar place?
Thank you

Please fill out the PIP form honestly. If it means that she cannot have a licence on medical grounds, then yes, she may be upset, but at least she won't be a danger to herself and others. Also, she might accept that she can't have a licence if the decision comes from the DVLA, as it is an official body. It may be small consolation, but she should be awarded a free bus pass if she is denied a licence on medical grounds. In Merseyside, the pass allows travel on buses, trains and ferries, although some areas are buses only.0

At 16 she can't drive anyway?I've never heard of a licence for just daylight hours,
Sorry non of that is good news.
You can ask for a 2 week extension but keep in mind that you have to return it at least 7 days before its due back.

I agree with the others, filling out the PIP form with complete honesty is an absolute must! The more information you put on the form about how her conditions affect her the better.
This guide may help you understand the PIP descriptors and their meanings. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria
I must admit, if my daughter was visually impaired then there's absolutely no way i'd allow her to have a driving license. She won't only be putting her life at risk but others too. Whether she'll be devastated or not, something's just aren't right and this is by far one of them.0 -

There are some mopeds that can be driven at 16 too - again with conditions.

Concerning that someone thinks this individual should have a license.0

Is following a driving a route somehow different to walking a route. 'm sure most people who claim they can't follow a route still drive don't they?0 -
Following and planning a journey has nothing to do with being able to drive. Have you looked at the link in post #5 that i put up for you? This explains all the PIP descriptors in great detail.

When your daughter goes out, is she able to go alone or does she need someone with her? If she goes out alone, is this on familiar journey's or is she able to go anywhere alone?
This thread seems to be more about a visually impaired person having a driving license than it does about PIP.0 -

I don't feel that a driving licence should be issued for someone visually impaired, who cannot read licence plates and cannot drive in the dark. The first part of the driving test was always to read a plate that the examiner points out - presumably this is still the case and this individual would fail before even getting into the car for her practical test. That is, of course, assuming that a licence is issued in the first place, and that someone is willing to teach her to drive.0 -
