  • I will tell them. I spoke to council again today and they were debating between themselves whilst I was waiting on the phone as to whether what I was saying was correct or not. Some agreed with me- it’s just a hange of address- others said it triggers UC :/ I have to start the new tenancy on Monday, and this is when I’m worried they are going to end my claim because they think it’s the correct thing to do (or they do it on purpose because it’s their agenda to push people to UC).

If they do, incorrectly, suspend or end your HB claim - appeal that decision immediately.

    Who was doing the debating?

Were they staff in a contact centre?

If they were then you should insisit on speakng to the benefit assessment team.

Basically some councils don't have contact centres, some do, some councils have staff that deal with very low level claims only.eg Income support, some deal with complex claims only like students/self employment.

So you need to know who is dishing out this information as it's incorrect - as said above

If they cease the claim incorrectly then they will have to open it up again

  • Yes they were staff at customer services in the benefits section of the council. I’m just hoping they don’t come up with some excuse or reason why I have to go on UC. Just wondered, does applying to claim a overlap payment (to pay a month’s notice to my current landlord and pay HB the new house as well) trigger UC?
