Argos card won't cancel

Hi, I paid my Argos card off back in May and asked for them to cancel it. I thought no more of it until about a month ago I got some money off coupons in the post. I emailed straight away asking them again to cancel. A few days later I had no reply so tried to log in to myargoscard and saw it was still active. So I rang them up and told them I'd asked twice but it's still open, can they please cancel it. She said they had received my email and were in the process of cancelling it. Great! Thought no more of it. Then a few days ago I received brand new Argos card in the post!!:wall:. I've not had a chance to ring up again yet, but how can I make sure they actually close it this time? Are there any particular phrases to say? Thank you.

You want to CLOSE the ACCOUNT.
Not CANCEL the CARD.
Ignore the post asking for compensation 0 -

Just as !!! says you have asked them to cancel the card so they have cancelled the card and sent a new one just as you asked :rotfl:0 -
I think credit card accounts automatically close after a period of inactivity anyway but appreciate you'd want to finalise it so it's out of your mind. "Close the account" is the phrase to use.0

However with Argos they give you notice of their intention to close the account. At least with me they did because it was never used.0 -

Maybe I'm the exception here, but I've had £125 compensation from Argos Card Services.
My Argos account was indeed closed, but that was not reported to the Credit Reference Agencies. I escalated this to FOS, they slapped Argos on the wrist and told Argos to send £75 compensation and all seemed well. A few months later it was showing as reopened. I wrote to Argos Card Services AGAIN, they apologised, sent me £50 compensation and promised to report the correct status to the CRA's. Guess what happened? Yep, the account is showing as active. So the whole merry go round starts again, and I'm £50 better off each time. One day the penny will drop with Argos. Here's the link to the thread I started over 2 years ago about it:https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5538753/argos-store-card-will-not-let-go&highlight=argos
OP, you need to tell Argos to close the account, and report it as closed to all 3 CRA's.0 -
That seems like a one off.
There was certainly no reason for compensation to be provided under those situations0 -
Apologies, I did say to close the account not just cancel the card. The new card was because the old one had expired. Still not had a chance to call, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.0
