Thinking about getting Gas installed
Any rough ideas how much it is to install gas for a 3 bed semi? Does the price vary from property to property, or is there a generic rough idea price for a property as I mentioned? I am based in NI so appreciate prices based on location will certainly vary.
I am starting to think about it.. I have about half a tank full of oil so it wouldn't be until spring or summer if I was to push the button on it.
Anyone who made the switch, worth it?
There is a lot of pros associated getting it, with getting rid of the oil tank, boiler, hot press and water tank in attic.. I know the price of gas itself isn't really any cheaper than oil, but a lot tidier in general. The boiler I have was made in 2011 and came with the house, it is a good boiler and the house is warm.
The thermostat is so old school though, the analogue peg system where you can only really program heat for morning and night and you have to turn it on manually if the house is cold etc.
Who would be best to go to, phoenix? or an independent plumber?

How near is your nearest gas supply. if the houses around are all on oil then it could be a fair distance to the nearest gas main0

I dont think too far as quite a few people in my street have been hooked up in recent years0

You start the process by contacting your regional gas supplier - It may be Centrica - Depends where you live
They will do a FREE survey and give a quote for the cost of linking the Gas to your home
Next step is fitting the home with a Boiler/Pipes/Radiators - Best to use local certified gas plumbers, but get at least 3 quotes.
The actual Gas meter will be fitted by your current Elec supplier, but if you have one of the new smaller suppliers they may not be set up for this, so Switch to say EDF who are - You can always Switch away when the job is done0 -
I'm not familiar with NI pricing, but in England, gas is approx 22% cheaper per kWh than oil, so that is your main incentive. You can't begin to wok out the comparative costs without getting a quote for gas connection and metering, which essentially relates to the distance required for the pipe run, but it will take you maybe a decade to recoup the cost of a new connection and boiler.
If your existing boiler is fine, why don't you just upgrade to a modern digital programmer? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
