Check out the website "who called me".

    I do all the time.
Unknown numbers I don't answer unless a message is left. I only didn't answer as I heard about it "tax office". If any organisation called me asking me for details, I will respond what details do you have on me first?

With tax office over 13 years, I only write to them. They have never called me!

Better to be sorry than being scammed.

If it's your mobile there are many dialers out there (yes they cost or have ads, you pay more for crap!) that will do the leg work for you and tell you who is calling without it being in your contacts.

Of course that could all be a conspiracy ;-)

Tax credits make plenty of outbound calls. If you don't believe it's genuine then you can call the tax credit helpline yourself
