BoughtByMany Insurance - Dental Checkup requirements

Hi all,

So we have a pup (golden Labrador) and I'm trying to sort out insurance side of things

I'm torn between BoughtByMany Regular (7k per year lifetime), and Complete (15k per year lifetime). The Complete also includes "Dental treatments as necessary" whereas the other is Accident Only

In the conditions I noticed

You must ensure that your pet has its annual check-up, a dental check-up every 12 months, and vaccinations so they remain healthy. If you don’t,
then claims might be rejected.

You must take your pet for an annual health and dental check-up with your vet. This is important to help spot health issues early and
prevent them from developing into something more serious. If you do not do this, your claim might be rejected.

Now we have took out Vacs4Life with Vets4Pets which gives the booster and annual checkup each year

I'm wondering however, where it says Dental Checkup - is this included within the regular annual checkup? As I believe they do inspect teeth in the annual checkup, as its a key part surely?

Or is it something else I need to arrange separately annually to the regular one?

Would hate to think I'm covered then find they wont pay out because it wasn't counted when they inspect the teeth during the regular annual checkup

Yes teeth are checked as part of the annual health screen. You can ask the vet to particularly note down dental health if you wish to cover yourself. And/ or e-mail the insurer for further information on that point.

I did not have the best experiences with Vets4Pets, they were quick to sell 'extra' products or services. For example, four or five years ago they advised my little girl have her teeth cleaned (under anaesthetic). Several veterinarians have since said she only has plaque so this procedure is not necessary. :eek:

You can help to maintain dental health with diet. Read the ingredients: avoid or minimise added sugars and grains/ cereals. AFAIK there is no evidence regular dry food cleans teeth. RAW bones do: some veterinary practices and breeders recommend this now for both dogs and cats.

BUT please supervise carefully. With puppies and greedy dogs you may need to firmly grip one end of, say, a chicken wing and let them knaw. Or go for poultry necks/ backs. Obviously check with your own vet or own breeder, how much RAW bone/ how often and so on.

I recently took out petplan for my new rescue, and because they have had teeth out at Dogs Trust, anything dental is classed as 'pre-existing' and therefore exempt. This can change after 2 years provided we get annual dental check-ups, so we are going to request the vet makes a note when they do their routine annual checks.
