Also when i left Sky for Now Tv there was an overlap and when on the phone to them (sky) giving my name and d.o.b they mixed the two accounts up, had to get them to back track give account number first.
Sky is the parent company of NowTV, that doesn't make them the same company.
It's quite probable that at least some agents/departments share both projects (I work on various projects at work myself). When an incoming call comes in the system will tell them something like 'incoming call, NowTV CS' and they should put their NowTV hat on, however it's very easy to say 'Welcome to Sky' instead of 'Welcome to NowTV'.
To actually go into the wrong companies customer account however is now a very bad thing to do due to GDPR and the agent (and the company) can get into serious trouble for doing so.0 -
I'd actually phone Ofcom's enquiry line for advice on this one.0

I've actually just called Ofcom. Their advice was that same as some of you helpful folks here, which was to ignore sky and get a new phone line. So, have to go shopping again, check that the landlord's content and figure out how to arrange engineer access in the apartment block I've moved into...
Thanks, everyone. Have to say that Sky's attitude over this is disgraceful.0 -
Update - I've been in touch with Sky Service Support through Facebook Messenger, and been advised that there's no reason why a new provider can't take over the line. In fact, they confirmed I couldn't pay the outstanding debt even if I wanted to, as I can't verify the account information
Now just have to persuade my preferred provider to go do it. In the meantime, the letting agent thinks he can contact the last tenant and persuade him to pay the bill and close down the account, so here's hoping..0 -
Update, for anyone interested.. A customer service advisor on the NOW TV forum advised me to just go ahead and order, saying that there was no reason why they can't take over the line. It was all plain sailing, up and running immediately on the scheduled date. I reckon the first Sky advisor I spoke with got it hopelessly wrong..0

Thanks for updating us, it may be useful for someone in the future.0

I think you may hit a wall as Sky and Now do use the same system. Best resolution would be to get the original account cleared as the £18 for line rental and BB or £25 with Fibre is a good deal plus you don't want it coming back again later on down the line. If all else fails there are other good deals out there with other providers and you can always switch providers again after a year anyway if you take a 12 month contract .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0
