I went through this research when I decided to take cards.

You need to work the figures through. You need to estimate how much you will take via card payments. Then work out if a fixed contract with ongoing monthly costs (regardless of whether you take a single transaction or not) and a low per transaction charge is more economical than the no-contract, no-monthly fees optionlike izettle or worldpay zinc.

I went with the later option and pay 2.75% per transaction, but have no contract and no monthly fees. Money is in my account within 3 days. I process about 8 transaction per year (I'm a kitchen fitter and most of my payments are via bank transfer)

All of these types of transactions come under the title 'Merchant Services' - use that in your google searching and you might have more luck finding info.

I use square, similar to izettle etc. Had no problems and is easy to setup and use. Like mentioned it depends on transaction amounts and frequency that will determine what works best for you.

Bumping a thread for a newbie.
    I’m also a sole trading kitchen/bathroom fitter.
How is it working out with the mobile card machine?
I’d not be taking many payments a year but they could be up to £10k each

I don't expect you will be taking many payments at that value.
There are not many people who have £10k+ limits, available on their credit cards.

But it is ok on a direct debit card.
