I sincerely doubt it, however you will need to provide more details so more experienced forum-goers could assist you. What stage is your 'unpaid loan' at? Have you just defaulted on a payment? Is there a judgement (being) made against you? What is the purpose for leaving the country? Holiday or permanent? I find it hugely unlikely airports will check your credit file.
    Know what you don't

There are certainly other countries where this happens but not the UK

  • No, it is a civil matter not a criminal matter.

Absolutely, categorically, NO, you can owe millions, you can have countless county court judgements, been chased by every bailiff and debt collector under the sun, as long as no criminality is involved, for example fraud, its entirely a civil matter.

OP may be from a different country originally. I remember seeing big queues at Muscat (Oman) airport of people paying speeding fines etc - no leaving the country if you owe anything.

I hope you do and pay what you owe.....but sadly no, you can leave the UK without paying your loan.

An ex-employee of ours was entering the Netherlands, got to passport control he got a tap on the shoulder from a Dutch policeman. Asked to accompany him to a holding room - turns out he owed a couple of thousand in unpaid speeding & parking fines. Dutch police had linked them to his passport so it flagged when scanned. He wasn't allowed to leave the holding room until the fines were paid. And that was him trying to ENTER a country
