Checking what is stored on my sim card?

Hi, I have an Android phone.

My phone recently got infected with !!!!!! and goodness what else when I downloaded an app. I can't sort this out and, not having anything else of importance on my phone, I want to remove the sim card, do a factory reset then put the sim card back in.

I just want to make sure that all my contact numbers are on the sim card and not any of the apps etc. For some reason not all of them are in my Google a/c on my laptop so I can't just download all my numbers onto a new sim card, and I am reluctant to connect my phone in any way to my laptop and transfer my contacts, just in case something nasty gets transferred and infects my laptop.

So - just how do I check what is actually stored on the sim without connecting the phone to my laptop?

TIA

If I were you I would get a new SIM. Your provider will send one usually FOC.
I would manually enter those contacts which are not stored on the laptop. Then update your new SIM

Yes, that is on my list to do if necessary - it's just that it's a little difficult for me to get to an O2 shop and to get a new sim with the same number apparently I have to go in with proof of id.

You don't need to take the SIM out to do a factory reset.

Making sure you have backed up all your contacts in your Google account is better. A SIM can only store a very very limited amount of information. It isn't worth using to save contact information. You might have too many contacts. Your contact names might be too long. A SIM can only store one phone number per contact. If you have more you will lose them along with any other info like postal and email addresses.

Go into your Google account settings on your phone and choose the sync contacts option. When this has finished you should be able to see all your contacts in your Google account when viewed with another computer.

To back up your contacts another way: go into your Contacts app, select the backup option from the menu/settings. This will save your contacts to a file on your phone. You can then go to your email app and email this contacts backup file to yourself.

What version of Android are you using? Can't you simply import all your contacts on your sim to your Google account via the standard Contacts app.

I don't want to connect my phone to my laptop at all - I can't take the risk of infecting that.

My SIL said he'd log onto my laptop remotely to check why all my phone contacts are not in my gmail a/c on the laptop and if he can sort that out then I won't have to worry - I'll be able to wipe the phone and download all the contacts again. He's 12,000 miles away and an Apple man really so not too happy with me for sticking with Windows/Android. He's been very resistant to getting involved with mending my technical breakdowns til now, but seems to have mellowed a bit :-)

i take it you have uninstalled the offending app and cleared any browsing history?

its more practical to link your contacts to your google account and not have them stored only on a sim card these days. its easy enough to do in settings and once sync'ed you will be able to see them on all devices

You don't have to. As mentioned a couple of times now, use the phone's google contacts app and import your sim contacts, then make sure you synch everything over.

Firstly you need to undesratnd something ..

You are NOT infected with anything. So plugging your phone into anywhere or putting your sim anywhere is not going to infect or affect anything. This is a fact.

Secondly, you dont need to factory reset your phone. All you need to do is uninstall the rogue app and all your problems will go away.
Possible remove your browser data too.

All this talk of infections and stuff is crazy !!!
