    If claiming CA and either IS or ESA then because of the overlapping benefits rule the CA is taken from ESA/IS and a carers premium is added. Carers allowance then pay separately.

    ESA and IS can't be claimed at the same time.
  • I receive Carer's Allowance and Income Support. A carer premium is added to my IS, then the amount of CA is deducted. I receive £64 CA per week, and £45 IS per week (paid fortnightly).

    I think the CA will only be paid separately if the ESA is entirely income based. If the ESA is entirely or partly contribution based it will be paid in preference to the CA (because the contributory benefit will be paid in preference to the non contributory benefit).

    Yes. If you get Carer’s Allowance a carer premium would be added to your ESA, as explained by poppy in Post#2.
