Thank you all for your comments. Yup, I need to read my mail properly and check my banking more thoroughly!
I phoned AA who were unable to offer any refund for previous years as well as this year as I'm out with my cooling off period but they have updated my details and removed auto renew. And since I've been a member for so long, I'm now a gold member with free cover for a set of keys too :rotfl:0 -
Greeen Flag ask if you want to auto-renew or not. At least, they asked me when I phoned up to renew (unautomatically).0

I'd be very tempted to have a go and see what they'll knock off at the time of the next renewal.BestBefore1999 wrote: »Thank you all for your comments. Yup, I need to read my mail properly and check my banking more thoroughly!

I've just followed the MSE advice, and gone with "AutoAid"

For a great many people this is one of the most money saving things they could do. At least now you've learned a lesson which could've been more expensive and are very unlikely to repeat it.
I've always had breakdown which covers the person rather than the vehicle which would mean at least I'd still have cover in such a situation. It has proved invaluable because whilst I can't ever recall the last time my car broke down and I needed to call them out I have been in the situation where I've been in someone else's car, it has broken down and they've not had any cover. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Always pay for AA/RAC breakdown policies using annual Direct Debit & not debit/credit card, after payment has been taken, you can cancel the DD, much easier than calling them up & cancelling the CPA.0

Cancelling a DD once you've got past the 14 day cooling off period following an automatic renewal won't stop the policy but will see you getting a letter demanding full payment of the outstanding balance for that year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
