Work out which circuit/plug is tripping it and unplug whichever appliance is causing the problem.
Turn all the circuit switches off which should allow you to turn the main back on. Then turn them back on one st a time to see which is tripping the main switch. Then identify what's in that circuit, unplug everything, and again plug back in one at a time.
Last time it happened to me, it was the tumble dryer. And it wasn't even running st the time. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

In case it isn't clear, the reason you cannot get the RCD switch to stay up is probably because the fault that 'tripped' it is still there. The process elsien describes is necessary to work out where that fault is and isolate it.
The other thing I'd do before anything else is to switch off and unplug any sensitive electrical equipment like computers and TV's. These don't appreciate having the power turned on and off frequently/rapidly, so best to protect them by disconnection."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -

That absolutely won't work with a neutral/Earth fault. An Electrician is required.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0 -
Physically unplug all items and try and reset it.
Other things to note
UNPLUG - do not just switch off at the switch on the plug
Any outside lights with water in them?
Any leaks?baldly going on...0 -
What we're you doing when it tripped.
Much of the time trips happen turning things on off or in use.0 -
OTT this time Risteard about calling a electrician first off? But totally correct of course about the Neutral/Earth fault!!
Isolating and finding the faulty item can be very useful, maybe the rest of the circuit and whatever it powers can be maintained.
As Baldy says by unplugging all appliances, then see if the RCD stays 'up'. If not do call the electrician!
If one appliance causes the trip, that is should remain unplugged till it can be electrical!y texted and fixed/replaced.
I would add other appliances with heating elements can be similarly frequent!y
problematic such as our breadmaker!0 -
