VOKERA 35 HE
Hi there,
i am hoping that this is the right place to post, if not apologies.
About 10 years ago I had a Vokera 35 he boiler fitted. It was fantastic and never broke down. My husband sadly passed away 8 years ago and i never got round to servicing it. Slowly and surely I am taking control of my life again and got a great Central Heating Engineer round to service the boiler. I was expecting some bad news with it, and was not shocked that there was a hole in a pipe (spewing out carbon monoxide) and the exchanger (?) needed replacing. I am thankful that the boiler is placed in the basement and that there is plenty of air circulating it.
All this seemed fine, but i hadn’t anticipated a repair bill of
£950 for the parts and approx £250 Labour. The Central Heating Engineer has suggested to replace it with an Alpha Etec 33 and to supply and fit approx £1400.
Does this sound about right or should I get another opinion. It seems pretty expensive repair and I will be looking to move house later this year.

So sorry for your loss
I dont get it £950 just for parts when a brand heat exchanger new is only £100+, and a pipe that has a whole in it which i suspect wont cost a lot lets just guess at £100 for a pipe, so that about £200 - £250 for parts, yes get a second opinion i think you may be getting ripped off
Oh of course he said get a new boiler (so i can make more money) for £1400 blimey, was your current boiler not working/broken when he came round or was it just for a service, also this very important and you need to do this ASAP go and buy some carbon monxide detectors buy about 3 or 4 and put thein each room where any gas supply is and defo near the boiler, your life is worth a lot more than 60 70 quid that they are going to cost, see the link below for the heat exchanger

I run a plumbing and heating company and i would not , and i dont know anyone else , who would fit a part from a customer who sourced that part from ebay
I think you are very quick to say OP is getting ripped off , what you could just as easily say but in less words is try a second opinionNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

I think you are very quick to say OP is getting ripped off , what you could just as easily say but in less words is try a second opinion
Did i say to the op, to buy the parts from ebay NO! that was just an example from a quick search online tojust give them an idea what the ball park is
Since you run a Plumbing and heating company why did not advise the Op, if the quote she has recevied was fair or not since you have more knowledge in that area, instead you choose to ignore the main post of the thread and just point out that im telling the op she is getting ripped off (if you re read my post you will see)
I have told the op, that she MAY! (not IS!) be getting ripped off and to seek another opinion, since she has lost her husband a few years ago and she has not kept up with the service etc....
since the op, has not come back to update us on if the boiler was in fact broken or if it was working ok and she just called the chap around just to service it etc... hopefullyshe updates us soon“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. Sorry for your loss....
Definitely get another opinion.
You can check if it is indeed spewing out carbon monoxide by following the above advice and getting CO detectors.
Oh, have a male in the house to talk to the engineer. Even if no family, get a friend in.

Never buy anything for a boiler from Ebay.0

The repair cost quoted is excessive. I had a Vaillant boiler with a blocked heat exchanger, leaking expansion vessel and various other blocked tubes. Vaillant's engineers replaced at least 8 sperate parts including the heat exchanger and expansion vessel for a cost of £300. This was for parts and labour, and was obtained by calling the manufacturer direct. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0
