Virgin interest free credit card issues

I know there are a few virgin credit card threads on here but none seem to discuss an issue I've just run into.

I applied for the card that offers 28 months interest free on purchases as i'd planned on getting a new TV and decided this was the best way. I was accepted with a £2800 credit limit, received my card on Friday and then activated it and logged into my online account the same night.

I assumed everything was ok as i think anyone would so i borrowed a big car and drove 40 miles to pick up my TV. As you can probably guess, my card was declined but i just assumed it will be some sort of fraud check and a quick call would sort it. To my amazement, i was old over the phone that my account was under review and they had no details as to why, the department i needed to speak to was also closed so there was absolutely nothing i could do. I've also found that i can no longer log into my account and it just tells me to call the number I've already called. I will add that i changed my pin before using the card but i can't see how that would have caused this sort of problem.

So my question is, what could have possibly happened between Friday night when everything seemed to be ok and Saturday morning? Has anyone else had a similar issue AFTER they've received and activated a card?

I will of course call back tomorrow morning but an insight to what could be the issue might be helpful.

Comments

  • Yes, others have had this issue but no point in speculating on the cause.

It could be the value of the initial transaction, a further ID check, a random audit, CIFAS, Hunter, or an error.
  • It’s happened before with other lenders on here - sometimes things come to life after the application is made and approved.

You won’t know what’s going on until they confirm back
  • Thanks guys, i guess it could be anything then and i'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed it was just because the first and only transaction attempted was for just over £2700.
