Underpaid at work (for years!) where do I stand?

Theoretica, I completely agree
And now I’ve searched my memory, I think I know how this has happened.
When I first returned to work after mat leave I was working two days a week 9-5.30pm but having half an hour lunch in order to leave at 5pm (and still work 16
hours) it seems (if I’m right) that accounts have paid me as though I had an hour for lunch and left at 5.30pm, thus only working 14 hours?
I soon starting working 16 hours spread over 3 shorter days as detailed above.
That’s the only logical reason I can think of for how it’s occurred.
I don’t know if it’ll be good enough for me to say that I just didn’t realise.
I know my boss will be totally reluctant to assist in any way.
That would be 15 hours a week (2 x 7.5 hour day) -maybe they thought you were 9-5 with an hour for lunch (2 x 7 hour day) = 14 hours.Originally Posted by shortcrust

You should be getting 711 per month0

It’s not complicated. £20,000 / 52 / 37.5 = hourly rate.
16 hours X hourly rate is what you should be getting0 -
Sign a new contract when you went back?0

You are fully within your rights to ask. They have as much responsibility as you.
You can ask for your pay to be reviewedz0 -
Me2you. No I’ve never had a contract. I knew my old boss for and everything was very informal. He retired about 2 years ago and a new person bought the business but she said that my existing terms still stood (whatever that means)0

I guess I’m worried my boss with so everything to wriggle out of taking responsibility like say my hours weren’t agreed (and that it was before her time so can’t be proved) or that I should’ve checked my pay and brought it up/it’s took late to do anything etc. It’s a firm of solicitors I work for 😕0

Your new boss has continued paying you what your old boss did. So was your new boss aware how your pay had been calculated based on your full time role or was she just given the figure without explanation? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Me2you. Sorry I’m still getting the hang of the and for some reason it’s not letting me reply to anyone individually.
My boss isn’t very hands on and I doubt she has a clue who gets paid what as she just passes the buck on most things. She will have just presumed it was all in hand as I’d already been back off maternity leave for 3/4 years by the time she’d taken over.
My pay has never been reviewed in 11 years so it’s just never been noticed.0
