Reasonable conveyancing fees?

Hello - I'm hoping for some advice..

I'm looking into purchasing a shared ownership property - around £100,000 will be my part, made up of deposit and mortgage.

I'm looking around at solicitors for conveyancing and the fees seem huge - what is the expected amount to pay for a conveyancing fees? Purchase only, first time buy?

What is a good way of getting the best price for conveyancing? Has anyone done this themselves?

Thanks

I was quote hunting a couple of weeks ago in a similar situation, first time buyer shared ownership purchasing £75,000 share of a new build in the SE.

I started with online quotes and they ranged from £700-1800. I then searched for local solicitors and found one half a mile away and they have quoted me £1200 and seem reputable so I have gone with them.

Don't be pressured into using the vendors IFA or solicitor, if you do not want to.

This is the website I used for my first set of quotes if you are looking for a starting point:

My conveyancing with a local solicitor was £599.50 including searches. £90k including deposit and mortgage FTB
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

When I was selling I used fairly local specialist conveyancing solicitors with a fixed price of £599. I think it was the same price for buying. They were really good.
