Apart from their rent, you mean?seven-day-weekend wrote: »you appear to be moaning about the Council carrying out their statutory duties, for which you don't have to pay a penny.0 -
I paid my mortgage for years. I still had to pay extra to have my house rewired. The rents don't cover the full cost .(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I would like to point out here that Council house works are funded by rent payments. Just like a private renter would get repairs and safety works included. Not everyone in a Council house claims full housing benefit. Many work full time and get zero Hb.
Not all of it though. Councils may fund works from block grant or special funding from the Government.Councils fund the cost of carrying out their duties as a landlord from the rents they receive.
For example, overcladding of the kind used on Grenfell Tower was often funded using 'regeneration' grants available from DCLG.
Arguably this work is not necessarily carried out because of their 'duties as a landlord', but nevertheless crossover often occurs. E.g. replacing windows which don't open because their mechanism is worn out becomes replacement of windows for 'energy efficiency'.
'Ringfencing' of local authority budgets is a notional exercise."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
To all the people that thought I was moaning about the works, that was really not the case, the post must have been worded wrong. I don't want to put myself at risk or my neighbours. They are coming to inspect next week. We were just a bit annoyed with the letter, no one here has ever committed a crime, and thought of a possible eviction and criminal record was worrying, but I do understand this is probably the best way to get a fast response from tenants0

I really do think that's not true.To all the people that thought I was moaning about the works, that was really not the case, the post must have been worded wrong. In all likelihood you simply haven't been convicted of a crime.0 -
Have I missed the post that shows the letter in full? Difficult to comment without it.It's nothing , not nothink.0

It hasn't been quoted. Whatever it says, I very much doubt it's "you have committed a crime and we are going to prosecute and evict you", and probably just points out the inevitable consequences if the tenant doesn't allow access for the inspection.parkrunner wrote: »Have I missed the post that shows the letter in full? The annual circular I get for the electoral register includes dire warnings about failure to provide accurate information. I think we have stickers on the bins about putting them out on the correct days. I don't consider those to be examples of the council "treating me like a criminal", any more than signs warning me that it's illegal to smoke or to shoplift.0 -

the comments made by OP in his first post contain partial extracts, which artfullodger has very artfully now reinstated at #630 -
OP. Perhaps after you have spoken to the head of housing to complain about the tone of their letter, you can ask to be transferred straight to their legal department and ask if they mind funding your case for slander. Seeing as you pay council tax, thats the least they can do.0
