Licence has expired on Microsoft Office

Licence has expired on Microsoft Office on a package from a college I no longer attend. All files on my laptop are now 'read only' and cannot be copy and pasted. If I buy a new subscription will this data be assessible again even though it will not be the same account details ?
I asked MS using 'chat' assistant facility, first day they said unlikely, the next day they said yes it will be fine.
Any ideas much appreciated.

If the documents are on your laptop you will still be able to open and edit them with any piece of software that can read docx or xlsx files. Libra Office, for example, is a popular MS Office clone and is fine for documents that are not too complex.
You can also open and edit them with the online version of Word and Excel which are free for anyone to use. Or you can import them into Google docs online etc etc.
I can't think of any reason why MS Office wouldn't access them once reactivated.
If you have either a Google (i.e gMail) address of a Microsoft one (e.g .live or .outlook etc) I would log in and try accessing either Google docs or Word online there for a start.0 -

Email a couple of files to someone with a valid copy of office, to check they can be opened and edited.0

I've seen this a few times, once office is installed - with a valid license - they all become useable. Libra Office will do it for nothing too.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0
