I do have a working spell checker with MSE. When Firefox changed to the Quantum versions the British dictionary didn't work so I had to load a United States English Spellchecker dictionary as a starting point.0

That a much better idea as you can set it to checks you're grandma is well.
If I right click the mouse one of the options listed on the menu is 'Check Spelling'. I don't have any way to edit the menu since Quantum took over, so assume it's standard.
Do you have that & can you check/uncheck it?0 -

Like you I have tried everything to get it to work but at last it does.
You have to download the dictionary as well as the language pack from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/language-tools/
I have downloaded just about all the English language packs as well as all the English dictionaries and it now worked. Then I sorted the languages use for web pages so that English (United Kingdom) [en-gb] was at the top and deleted all the others, it still works.0 -

Thanks - tried that and it works!
Words spelt incorrectly now have a red line underneath. Unlike MSE using Windows 10, It doesn't auto-correct obviously incorrectly spelt words e.g. feild or sworrd0
