There are 2 good accounts for young people:
The Lloyds TSB Under 19s account (http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/under_19s_account.asp)
This offers 3.3% interest, a proper visa debit card, excellent online banking facilities, and no minimum funding requirement. This account has to be opened in a branch.
The Alliance & Leicester Premier21 account (http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/currentaccounts/index.asp?page=premier21&ct=curracchome)
This offers an excellent 10% interest on balances up to £1000 until January 2009. The internet banking is quite good, and you get a visa debit card.
HOWEVER, you have to pay in at least £250 every month (not necessarily all in one go). This account can be opened online.
Go for A&L if your daughter will have £250 or more paid in each month, if not go for Lloyds TSB.
Hope this helps!0
