Numerous bank takeovers how do I reclaim ppi from???

Hello, my credit card has been taken over numerous times by various banks.
Card was bought in Oct 2002, how do I reclaim all the ppi that far back if my present Credit Card wasn't the original bank? Who is responsible for all that ppi? Each new company just sent me a new card each time the previous bank was overtaken without ever mentioning the ppi. Please help what should I do?
