Lloyd’s closed account sent Cheque to old address

Good afternoon all.
My first post here and right in at the deep end. Here is a brief history...
I’m currently in Southern Africa the place of my birth due to circumstances completely out of my control dealing with terminally ill parents.
I had a Lloyd’s tsb account had all my worldly savings. I tried logging onto my online banking unsuccessfully, phoned the bank and they refused much information only to sketchily tell me after an internal review your account has been closed, and we have sent a cheque in the post. They also informed me they had written to me.
It was at that time I had that sinking feeling, in all this turmoil I had forgotten to update my address. They refused to help on the phone. So all letters pertaining to this and most importanty the cheque went to an old address.
I believe I know why my account was closed and may challenge that at a later date, for those who want more info on that I sold some of my things here at home so the bank must have seen higher transactions than normal and that too transactions from a different country. Like I say that is for a different day.
My closest friend has offered me his address now to use for correspondence. Is there a way of getting that particular cheque canceled and a new one issued to my friends address?
I’m worried sick that I have lost everything I have saved over the last 15 years working in the UK. it will destroy me, my wife and kid. Mom has severe Levy body dementia and dad has cancer. I can’t leave here right now but I can’t lose all my money.
Sorry guys I’m not after sympathy just if any of you kind people can point me in the right direction of what to do. I really need my money. If I can get the cheque delivered to my fiends address he will deposit it into a old basic account with a different bank that is still open and not used.
Many thanks for any advice received.

If I can get the cheque delivered to my fiends address
Hell Corner?
You will need to contact Lloyds and ask them to cancel the cheque.
Do you have no other account to which a bank transfer can be made?0 -
Hi thanks for the reply. I do have another account to deposit the supposed cheque into. Lloyd’s were incredibly vague on the phone and refused to help at all. Or can I request them to transfer directly into my other account?
Do you suggest I write to them to explain what I’m going through and that I forgot to update my address? I can include my passport copy and letters from my parents doctor etc.
Sorry I’m at my wits end. Have not slept all night last night.0 -

Presumably if you were able to discuss your account with them on the phone you must have passed the relevant security questions to validate your identity, so I'd call them again, explain the situation and ask them exactly how you can go about being reunited with your money, given that you have no means of accessing any cheque they had issued. Transferring the funds to another account in your name may well be an option, but I imagine that they'd resist the use of a third party's address for correspondence, especially if you're making it clear that you're in another country and unable to attend a branch.
However, if the customer service agent on the phone refuses to offer any constructive assistance then open a formal complaint....0 -
Thank you Eskbanker. On the phone they refuse to give me any other information. Similar to other cases I have read about on this forum regarding account closures after an internal review.
They were so vague and non commit all on the phone. I have spent around 2 hours on the phone to them in the last 2 days, mostly on hold. They did not ask me any security questions as they said there were none to ask as I no longer had an account with them I guess that is why they were acted that way.
The last call I made 15 minutes ago requested I write to them and gave me an address for the account closures. Which is what I shall do.
I’m specifically interested if there is any terminology I should use in my letter regarding this?
I will courier the letter tomorrow. Thanks again0 -
I had a Lloyd’s tsb account
Which? Lloyds sold TSB in 2015. Are you speaking to the right bank? I expect you mean TSB (otherwise why mention it specifically) but you've said Lloyds a couple of times.
There might be more help available if people know exactly which bank you're talking about.0 -
I’m so sorry it’s lloyds bank I’m referring to. I’m sorry for the confusion.0

How long is it since you moved from the old address?
Are you not in contact with the people who now live there or are you not able to contact them direct?
Otherwise contact Lloyds, ID and address confirmation and get them to cancel the old cheque and issue a new one. That's all you need.0
