First Response Accident Scam

More of a heads up on cold calls! There are loads of scams going on just now.
Any cold callers saying they are connected with the ABI are cowboys trying to scam honest people into making a fake claim.

The most widespread is - You've had an accident last year?

Best response:
- goodness how did you know that I am a professional stunt driver! - After a confused pause from the caller they hang up! :p

Common problem - if you go along with the call and find out who is really behind the scam you can report them to both the MOJ and the ICO

The ICO is a painful experience for the company directors who can no longer escape their obligations by liquidating the company
  • These always make me laugh. Last year I got a call saying I could get my money back from my delayed flight, I said "I haven't flown for 8 years!" and hung up. I get loads saying I've been in a car accident. News to me! I don't drive!

You can still be in a car accident as a passenger...

I actually know someone who makes these calls! He says 90% of the time its people telling him to foxtrot oscar, which due to his nature he really enjoys. On a good month he can earn £4K and he has recently won a trip to Amsterdam, there aren't many weeks when he hasn't got some award or bonus, usually nice spirits. I am glad he has a job he enjoys as he is on the spectrum. I still tell them to foxtrot Oscar though.

I used that line on one caller and he still went on with his script.
He asked me when the accident was. I replied "Well my funeral was last June, so it must have been before that..."
He still didn't give up and eventually I got tired of him and told him to foxtrot oscar, as it seems to be all they understand.

I don't know how anyone can 'enjoy' a job that annoys other people or encourages fraudulant claims. Maybe he'd have made a good Nazi! Perhaps you could ask your aquaintance how he can live with himself?

This is good if you can get the information out of them. The majority I find just hang up on you when you ask for their actual company name.
