Charge for cleaning after moving out

Hi

Does anyone know approximately how much a cleaning company would charge to clean a small 1 bedroom flat Yorkshire area? My son has moved out and the landlord is looking to charge him, (take from his deposit) what looks like (from the photos they have sent) a peripheral clean.?

Could easily be around £100-150 but it very much depends if stuff like an oven clean is needed, a deep bathroom clean, removal of items etc.

    Hi

He has only been in the flat a couple of months so its not too bad, it just need a bit of bleach and a hoover as far as I can see from the photos, although when I asked him when he moved it he told me it was cleaner than when he moved in - that's boys for you I guess !!

Does he have photos of it when he moved in to compare?

If it is indeed cleaner than when he moved in, then he needs to dispute the charge.

Its unusual to say a house needs a 'bit of bleach' to clean it though... are you saying its mouldy? (the only thing that screams 'bleach' to me)

I use bleach to clean everything so just a term of phrase, it just needs a surface clean really and knowing him it wouldn't have been as clean as when he moved in, I think his clean and my clean are a little different :)

It's not the lanlords top priority to hunt round to get the best prices (their time is money) so it's usually in your best interest to do this yourself (either clean yourself or get professionals in yourself).
The landlord cannot charge an exhorbitant amount, but still might not spend their own time hunting round for the cheapest.

Can you get someone in or is it already in progress.

He has already moved out and handed the keys back in , otherwise I would have gone myself and saved him some money. Hopefully they wont charge him too much

They will charge him whatever they need to to get it done properly and quickly (the property being empty costs them money). They have no direct interest in saving him money.

£15-20, but again, that will vary wildly on location etc
  • south west - 3 bed new build - windows, carpets and oven - professionally cleaned costs us £125. this was the estate agency recommendation. you need to check the contract/tenancy, as that would state what needs cleaning and if it needs to be done professionally or not.

i would call some letting agents in the area and see who they use and get some quotes from them
