meter readings sent for validation process

Hi - I moved from Eon to Yorkshire energy on the 26th September due to better deals.
My final readings were sent to YE who said they had sent them off for validation process. I'm still waiting. Eon sent me a final estimated bill with a small refund but I should have about 60-70£ to come back... How long should I be expected to wait.
Eon said they received a D86 from YE with different readings ? there response was....
The D86 Eon. are referencing must have come from their data collector in the form of an estimate. As soon as we receive the information from the industry and adjust your account this information will be available for Eon and they should adjust your final bill to reflect the correct readings.......

YE have chased the VP again but still not given me a time scale of when they expect to send the readings off to EON. Has anyone lese had to wait months for this adjustment coming through...

I suspect that one of the suppliers has raised what is known as an Agreed Readings Dispute because there is a difference between the industry-validated readings and the readings that you provided. The tolerances are 250kWhs for electricity and, for metric gas meters, 1200kWhs.

    According to Ovo:

Quote: How long can a meter read dispute take?

It can take up to eight weeks for gas and 14 weeks for electricity (it might take a little longer if we don't have enough - or the right - information).

We know this seems like quite a long time, so we'll always try and get it sorted for you as fast as we can. Unquote

This situation can occur if the losing supplier has been billing on estimated readings. I would talk to your new supplier as it is responsible for managing the transfer.

Hello cazacs16 and it looks like you might've been told the wrong thing.

The D86 is the electronic message used by the industry to advise the start/final electricity meter readings following a change of supplier. As our final bill is based on a D86, we won't be looking at changing it without, as Hengus says, an Agreed Reads Dispute (ARD) being raised.

As you say, change of supplier readings go through a third party (Data Collector) who checks they're in line with past readings held for the property. Sometimes, the Data Collector will make a change and both suppliers need to use the same amended readings to open/close their accounts. I suspect this is what has happened here as our final bill is based on a D86. These reading are shown as estimates because they don't come from you or a meter reader.

The way to change this is through an ARD and I agree with Hengus, this might already be underway. If it is, the two suppliers will re-agree the opening/closing readings and re-submit them. I can confirm, to use an ARD, the difference needs to be above a set threshold of 250 units for electricity. As you're expecting a refund in the region of £60-£70 I suspect this threshold has been met. If it isn't in progress, it needs raising and either supplier can do this. Once raised, they can take up to 28 working days to fix.

Sorry to lose you cazacs16 and hope this points you in the right direction. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Remember, if an ARD is raised (and agreed) anything you get back from the old supplier as a result will need to be paid to the new supplier

There may be a small difference, due to variations in prices in tariffs, but most MSEers switching are finding that this years tariff is more expensive than last years, due to prices increasing across the industry.

What is important is that the final read used by the old supplier matches that as the start reading of the new supplier.
