Stepchange have cancelled my plan - advice needed

Hi everyone,
I am needing some advice as I am panicking badly.
I had a letter from step change out of the blue to say my plan was cancelled. I believe a direct debit was missed and it was a shock to me as I thought the direct debit had been collected. SC have my email, they have my telephone number. I don't get why they haven't called me to let me know as if this was the case I would have made sure that funds paid. I have been in between jobs and my salary has been all over place and at different amounts.
The phones calls from debt collectors at all hours have started up again on both mobile and home phone as well nasty threatening letters. I am trying to get back on my feet and managed to secure a job which has the potential to go higher, however I am on a contract basis. Now I feel like I am at risk for losing everything.
I am in a position where I cannot call them at work but I can email, so have sent an email today in the vein hope that will have some discretion and reinstate my plan.
If they won't reinstate my plan, please can someone advise me what to do?
Many thanks.

Manage your DMP yourself. It is really easy to set up and organise with the help of the NEDCAB DMP website.
Loads of us self-manage our DMPs and actually find it far better for us than using Stepchange or one of the other free providers.DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -
As above, pay it yourself, you don`t need a 3rd party to operate a DMP for you, do it yourself, all stepchange do is pass on your payment, cut out the middleman, and pay directly, as you did before you got into financial trouble.
A simple letter to all creditors explaining your situation, and asking for a 30 day hold is all it takes, if you don`t have their payment details, ask for them, then just continue payments as previously agreed, nothing could be simpler.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I agree with all the above. This may be a blessing in disguise.
For now, try to block the phone calls. If that doesn't work, you may need a new number.
File the letters logically. You don't need to study the content unless it's a formal pre-action letter which should come with a return envelope. They are not that common but you need to be aware of the process.

Hi
I came across your post, hope you don’t mind me commenting. If there are multiple missed payments then at some point we’ll have to cancel the plan, but we would make attempts to get in contact first. Is it possible we don’t have your up to date contact details, If we do and you only received one form of contact through the letter advising the plan had been cancelled, then we can certainly look into this for you to find out what happened.
You can of course deal with your creditors yourself if this is what you’d prefer to, but if you would like to come back for further support we’d be happy to help discuss this with you. Here you can find our contact details.
Take care,
