Family Saver Club from Eversmart Energy - 1% interest per month

  • Spoke to Eversmart Energy today and I was told that the fixed prices that I was given (and emailed in the "Welcome Pack") in July 2018 were "incorrect" and that although I am on what was incorrectly called a Fixed Tariff that was guaranteed for a year, the rates would go up later this month as the prices in the market are going up. I will wait for them to write to me formally before I act on it.
  • I'm quite tempted by Eversmart's Family Saver Club tariff. I've been with them for just over a year. My 12 month fixed rate ended a month or so ago, and so far they've kept charging me at the rate I originally fixed at, which is better than anything else currently available from anyone, so that's a bit of a bonus!

They phoned me yesterday to say they wouldn't be continuing at that rate for much longer (fair enough), and offered me the Family Saver Club. Unit rates are higher, and so is the elec standing charge, but the gas standing charge is lower (and I don't use any gas at all for 6 months of the year).

I can afford to pay the 12 months up front, and I've not had any issue with their customer service so far (but equally I've had no reason/need to contact them about anything either). My main worry is that they go bust and the potential hassle that might cause. Their offer almost seems too good to be true, and smacks of a desperate attempt to bolster their cash flow.

I'm also aware of their retraction/back tracking on other customer's fixed tariffs, which stinks. But this one is absolutely clear that it's fixed for 12 months, don't see how they could renege on that?

I was with GB Energy when they went under, and tbf I didn't end up losing out that time. But with £1000 credit on my account, this could be a different story if no other provider is prepared to take the customers/tariff over.

If I paid Eversmart my 12 months up front by credit card (assuming they will even accept c/cards), would that give me any more protection? I've a feeling there's a 90 day limit on c/card protections, so after that it won't be any use anyway?

    .

    They phoned me yesterday .......

Wow! Considering the poor response (for poor read nil) that many of us are receiving from them I am very surprised that the one employee they seem to have has the time to actually phone people.

I wouldn't let Eversmart have any more money than absolutely necessary. I seriously wonder how much longer they will be trading.

I'd be very reluctant to give them a grand or more of my money up front however protected it might be under the SOLR provisions.

It's taken most people until around now to get any credit balances back from the IRESA meltdown at the end of July and as others have said it took around 3 months to get their money back after GB went bust.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

When a supplier gets into trouble, Ofgem holds an auction to get the highest bid for the failed supplier. In the event that there is no bid for the failed supplier’s customers, then Ofgem has the power to appoint a Supplier of Last Resort. As far as I know, there is no upper limit on consumer credit protection under The Consumer Levy.

Thank the Lord for some humour. This forum has reached a new low in poster abuse over the past week or so.
