Anyone know why Firefox would periodically change my default search engine to ebay for no apparent reason?
Happens every couple of weeks.

It couldn't be due to any add-ons you have installed could it?
Just a wild guess but i know when my browser started acting up it was due to one of the add ons i had installed. Was fine one day but then just forever acted up until i uninstalled it. YouTube add ons seem to be bad for it in my experience.0 -
Good thought but no active add-ons.0

Tools -> Options --> General -> Startup ->
Checkmark (tick) in box "Always check if Firefox is your Default Browser"
Under that it will then say "Firefox is your default browser"I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

When you download something I often see the message, usually quite small, saying make such and such your default search engine. The box is usually already ticked so you have to untick the box.0

Always check anything you access for download purposes, before installing. read everything on the download page and, as said by Tom99, untick the boxes. If you follow the instructions in my first post, this will bring back the real Firefox browser and keep it there.
Providing you do not leave download check boxes ticked.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

What is your anti-virus software?
The free AV software often tries to do stuff like this, although I've not heard of them changing your search provider to eBayChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
For a start click on menu tab - options - search then in one-click search engines highlight ebay and click remove, you can do that for any others you want to get rid of. Have you got the ebay tool bar installed ?0
