She ice skates in a synchronised ice skating team and are in need of multi trip travel insurance to cover her and I’m finding it very difficult to find the cover she needs

Q1 do I need winter sports cover as the equipment is all our own and won’t be hiring any

Doesn't the team organisation cover insurance for the competitive sports injuries aspect??

And doesn't the tour organiser organise group travel insurance for the participants??
  • My brother is a semi-professional athlete and coach. Generally for competitions he is covered by the governing body at competitions. His own cover is provided through a broker and underwritten by DTW1991 at Lloyd's. I know he has dealt with Crispin Speers brokers before (who are the PJ Hayman parent) and they can offer group travel for professional sports tours. Might be worth giving them a call to be pointed in the right direction, but I think you will struggle for individual cover if not organised at a group level.
  • In reply to your questions
We were told that as we were NISA (national ice skating association) and part of the club NSSA (Nottingham synchronised skating association) that we were covered until last year when we were advised that that cover wasn’t enough and were told to sort our own cover as well

See if a local broker (not Swinton) can help or approach the insurer the NSSA uses
  • I would expect the club to be covering this.

Do you have any detail as to why they think their cover was insufficient?
  • Hi
I also have two daughters about to embark on these travels with NSSA!

I have extensively searched for the correct level of insurance cover and after ringing NISA I was advised of the following:

NISA membership (full or associate) provides full liability and personal accident cover for competing at home or abroad (the full policy and certificate that you can print are available on the NISA website under member benefits).

Purchase a basic travel insurance policy for European cover. Check that it includes participation in activities. Our bank account has worldwide travel insurance as a benefit and when we've looked into it the girls are covered even if we don't travel with them - so long as they are supervised by an adult.

Hope this helps, if in doubt please just give NISA a ring.
