can creditor re-start reporting to CRA ?

mortage defaulted many years ago
and the default dropped off the CRA about 2 years ago

mortgage is still live and in use

mortgage co now say they will start recording with agency again

is that allowed following the previous default and expiry ?

any advice welcome

    If there was a previous default recorded on the CRAs and that has now dropped off, then no, any data they report to the CRA would not be shown.

    The only way the could make it show would be to either falsely report a recent default date, or falsely record it as not having had a default. Unlikely they would try something so stupid, but you could challenge them and take them to the FOS/ICO if they were to.

    cos it has already gone through the default period of six years and has not been recorded with the cra since.

    so in effect they have not sent any monthly updtaes to the cra's for some 8 years !

    Thanks, I only got the letter this morning from them saying they will start reporting to equifax again. so will keep eye on credit reports to see if anything shows, but will write to the mortgage co as well and say they should not be resporting followig the default.

    They can report data, but the CRA will simply never show it if they don't try to pretend the default never existed.

    It is the CRAs that drop account off your report 6 years after a recorded default, NOT the reporting company.
