Vodafone and incorrect credit file entry

Hello, some advice if you wouldn't mind please. Last year I elected not to renew my Vodafone mobile contract, I rang gave the required notice and after the last DD payment cancelled the instruction. I thought nothing further until I applied for a mortgage with a tight product expiry deadline to find Vodafone had registered a no payment notice. Upon contacting them I discovered they had renewed my contract - not told me! and went on to attempt a debit from my account. This was relatively swiftly sorted but in the meantime the fixed rate of 1.24% for 5 years expired and I had to go on a rate of 1.39, not a bad rate but this delay cost me over £1500 (difference in interest over 5 years on a mortgage of 310K). Any advice as to whether I have a claim which could be progressed? They are aware of the complaint though haven't got a deadlock letter from them. Many thanks for your time

A claim for what?
They won't compensate you with the £15000 -

Is that the notification will be accepted for termination. Or does your contract specify a written instruction.
Did you simply move onto a month by month basis on the same terms as previously. Not a new contract.0 -
The 24 mnth contract was due to expire on the 30th December so I contacted them on the 15th November to say I did not wish to renew and therefore no payments should be taken after the December DD.0

You could have incurred additional charges on your account that wouldn't have been reimbursed until January though. As you contract ended on the 30th December.
When you rang what were you advised?0 -
I didn't think there was any such thing as "renewing your contract" - you either go SIMO, PAYG or take a new airtime plus device contract. What I believe CAN happen is that you just carry on paying on a rolling monthly basis, unless you take direct action.
If you believe they haven't acted on your instructions then you could possibly ask for a transcript of the call, assume you have evidence of the 191 call from the log on your mobile so pinpointing it should be easy.
EDIT - Just checked and assuming Vodafone bill you in the same way they bill me, bills are generated in arrears. So assuming you cancelled and assuming you paid by DD, that DD would have come out in January for December's usage. Appreciate that is a lot of assumptions, does it shed any light on anything for you?0 -
I'm pretty sure you need to give 30 days notice that you do not wish to renew your contract;
From the VF website:
How do I cancel my Pay monthly contract?
You can cancel your contract at any time over the phone. Use the ‘Give us a call’ button to find the most suitable number for you to use.
There’s no charge if you cancel within the first 30 days of your contract, or when your minimum term has ended. If you want to cancel any time in between, you’ll need to pay an early exit fee.
When will my contract end?
Your contract will end 30 days after you’ve told us you’re leaving. You’ll be billed as normal up to the date we disconnect your number – so don’t cancel any payments until then.
You contacted them 45 days before your renewal date, which is 15 days before the 30 day notice period.0 -

This is more likely the situation.0
